目前，在国内高端的产品大多数是以磁控溅射金属膜为主。金属膜有着不错的隔热性能，特别是采用磁控溅射技术生产的多层膜系结构的金属膜在隔热领域达到了登峰造极的水平。但是金属膜一直存在着先天缺陷，如易氧化、 屏蔽ETC、GPS信号、反光高等问题，所以，金属膜尽管有着不错的性能，同时也有着这样那样的缺陷，在高端膜领域其实有着更多的选择。
陶瓷是个物质氧氮化物的统称，传统意义的陶瓷是由二氧化硅等物质组成，在防爆膜上使用的陶瓷物质有氧化铟锡，氮化钛等。这些物质对太阳光谱有着选择性过滤的功能，隔热性能远超金属，反光更低，稳定性，去掉金属特性后，不会屏蔽信号。
其实在大自然中有很多物质包括类陶瓷物质，也对太阳光谱具有选择性过滤的功能，合成陶瓷使用的是通过磁控溅射机人工合成的氮化钛(也是钛金属氮化反应形成氮化钛)，从综合性能来讲，陶瓷膜的完美度超过金属膜很多。
